For a couple of years now we have been enabling ISPs to understand the applications their subscribers are using with true application awareness.
The majority of network traffic evades traditional methods of measurement and control, and requires identification of an application signature within the payload of the packet. Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) allows the provider to identify the application that any individual subscriber is running.
We have helped a number of leading ISPs gain a true understanding of how many of their subscribers are using Gnutella, eDonkey, Kazaa etc. In addition we can show what each individual’s bandwidth usage is, control or throttle that bandwidth and even view what files are being up or downloaded.
